I need a dog for protection?

dog deterrent

So, i’m getting a dog. I am 17, I will be taking this dog to college. (im going to community college-ive researched pet friendly apartments) But my dad said I can get a dog at the latest Christmas, he will consider it sooner if I bring my grades up.

I know you should carry pepper spray/knife/cell for protection. But I would like a guard dog…more that looks the part though if you know what I mean? I will not train it to attack, it would end up put to sleep or something you should never train your family dogs to attack, I know its the dog itself not the breed-our family Labrador is very protective but labs are supposed to be friendly. I just want a dog that will be a deterrent/looks at least slightly intimidating. I also want an affectionate, loyal dog with short fur. I do really want a Beagle, but they arent exactly intimidating. Any breed ideas? I love Catahoula Leopard Dogs but my dad thinks they are ugly. Should I go with a Beagle even though they wont be good for protection?
haha no in alaska you can carry concealed weapons
im not in college now i do online homeschooling i have time for a puppy
ahh i want a mutt bad but its hard to get one where i live. its about 0 which is less than a purebred but they have to do a homecheck, interview, blah blah.
i plan on walking the dog twice a day and just letting it out to run and go on a hike on weekends. or a long trail.

PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION I NEED HELP!!!!! dog training?

dog collar training

Hey folks… ok so this is the second time im gunna post this coz a certain someone got the wrong idea on it last time…

OK so i have this puppy at home named Koda i adore him so much although he can be a handfull sometimes :S i need some really good tips on how i can train him to be a good dog.. like what age can he be to use a training collar and for you people out there that thinks it’s mean it’s not it help subourn dogs like my one to train better the only time that its mean is if you put the collar up to when it could hurt him.. if it’s at a low stage it gives him a lil shock like a lil soft smake on the nose. but back to what i was saying um i also have this other dog at home he is train but when Koda is around this other dog he doesnt behave at all :S and yes the other dog might be distracting him but koda has to learn to behave me even if there is another dog around. I would love it if anyone had any links or anything that you could post for me.. thanks XX
AND I LOVE MY DOG TO DEATH!!!!!!

My dog will not walk on his collar how do i train him?

dog collar training

When he is on his collar he will just sit there, so some times ill just let him walk beside me with out his collar but he is a puppy so he don’t know his name, and he likes to do what ever he wants so i have to run after him when he bolts. So i usually will carry him till i get to the gated dog park. How do i train him so he will walk on his collar?

Beware of Dog sign: good or bad?

dog deterrent

There has been a slew of B&Es recently on my street- even though we all have security alarms systems. Anyway, both of my neighbours have Beware of Dog signs on their houses, I don’t. I’m leary of putting one up because I think thay are kind of tacky looking and my ADT sign should be a deterrent enough, but it wasn’t for the neighbours who have been broken into.

What are your thoughts on Beware of Dog signs? My cat is more frightening then my puppy is.

My puppy needs dog training!?

dog collar training

I need to get my puppy in some dog training! I don’t have a lot of money and I just want the basic "manners" for her. Theres a place around me in Berlin, NJ called Wonder Pets that I was looking into but it’s 0 for 8 classes. I also was looking into the Petsmart or Petco classes but wasn’t sure how people liked them. I don’t want to do the whole shock collar training or the "aggressive" stuff. If anyone has any thoughts or ideas lemme know! Thanks!

Remote Training Collar for aggressive puppy?

dog collar training

I have a 10 month old beagle/spaniel mix puppy. She has been aggressive since I first adopted her from the shelter at 8 weeks old. She only bites me when I put her in her crate before work or hold onto her collar to prevent her from jumping on guests. I put my dog through obedience training for 8 weeks (they used clicker training-all positivie reinforcement). She learned new tricks but her behavior continued to worsen. She has recently begun trying to bite men that come into our house (Fed Ex guy, insurance man, etc.). She growls aggressively at them, nips at their pant legs, backs off, and starts all over again.Last night I had a professional dog trainer (been in the business over 15 years) do an evaluation. He believes that my dog is a real potential problem. He suggested using a remote training collar and doing an extensive 7 week one-on-one training with her. This will cost 0 for the whole program.
Does anyone have any experience with using shock collars on aggressive dogs?

Eucalyptus Oil as a flea deterrent?

dog deterrent

I was just thinking that Koala Bears eat only eucalyptus leaves and because of that the do not have a problem with fleas or ticks and it boast their low immune system. So, if I were to put a couple drops on my dog’s neck and lower back maybe one a week would it perhaps have the same benefits? Or could it have negative affects? Or does anyone know a natural flea and tick deterrent? No advantage (or any other chemical) please!
I’ve tried Frontline, and it didn’t work for my dogs! Really one of my dogs is allergic to fleas so I know when she starts to get them. Also my friend gave her cat a puppy dose of either advantage or frontline and she started to have a seizure. It’s also costing a lot of money and my grandma is cheeping out, so that’s why I’m looking for alternatives.

Stop Dog Barking – The Secret Free Way

ultrasonic dog

www.dogtrackingsecrets.com Click the link to find the newsletter. Dog barking and maybe more precisely how to stop dog barking is something that puzzles many dog owners. They are looking for the final solution to dog barking and unfortunately (in my opinion) many also went for the less nice option of using bark collars and other anti bark devices. Many years ago I stumbled upon a quite simple bark stop solution. I have successfully used this method on my own dogs and also helped several of my friends. You don’t have to buy anything and this will stop dog barking at people, at the doorbell, bikes, lawnmowers, strangers, other animals and I would say anything you could think of. It is a method that works 24/7 and you are in total control. Unfortunately this will not help you to stop neighbor’s dog barking.
