Can high frequency pitch sounds at high levels hurt hearing?

ultrasonic dog bark

I have some major problems with a neighbor and his dog barking into all hours of the night. I tried purchasing a ultrasonic device that is supposed to stop neighborhood dogs from barking but it doesn’t work. I looked into why and the decible rating just isn’t high enough.

So I bought a 152db train horn. This thing is incredibly loud as you can imagine. In fact it’s loud enough that if you’re about 10 feet away it will give you an upset stomach. You can actually "feel" the sound inside your body.

I’ve altered the horns so they emit their sound at around 22000 to 21000 hz and I believe. I know I cannot hear the sound but it’s blatantly obvious the neighbor’s dog sure can.

My question is, is being around this harmful to one’s hearing? Since a human cannot hear this hz sound but it is being emitted at such a level can it cause hearing damage?

What are your creative ways to help keep neighbor's dogs quiet?

ultrasonic dog bark

I have some extremely annoying neighbors in the neighborhood I just moved into. They, for one, have too many dogs for our city’s codes and, for two, let them bark all day and all night. They keep them in too small of a pen (that’s not just opinion- it’s city law as well) and they never give them attention. The put them out at dawn, and take them in sometime at night..whenever they get to it. There’s almost always someone at the house, so there’s no obvious reason they can’t take them in and pay attention to them. They live on the corner and a lot of people (decent people..not scary looking crack addicts or anything) walk on our street, with their kids or just jog for exercise, and the dogs bark at every person, every car, and every animal they see or hear. Since they are on the corner of our two streets, that’s a lot of people and a lot of cars. I’ve dealt with this for weeks and I can’t take it anymore. I’ve ave talked to other neighbors who say talking to them has been ineffective, and I don’t want to call the police on them, because in my opinion, the police have better things to do and I also don’t want to cause a dispute with them..I just want it to stop.

I was looking for ways I might be able to get the noise to quit. I am considering an ultrasonic bark machine, If I can afford one, before I go absolutely insane and have to be put in a mental hospital from the constant noise, that might be my first step. I just am not sure what will be effective.
I hate to call the city on them and have their dogs taken, not that I think they would miss them, they neglect them enough as it is, but I’m not the biggest fan of animal shelters, and I know they are extremely crowded here already. I also, by no means want to harm the dogs, so any answers telling me to poison them will be reported.
I’m just looking for methods, bark controllers or other ideas that might work well. The neighbor are across the street diaganol from me and I think they would be close enough for an ultrasonic bark control to work, but I’m not sure which one or anything. Thanks in advance.

What method is the best defense against dog attack and which brands are of best use?

ultrasonic dog

I am getting into the habit of jogging in order to lose weight. The problem is a lot of people leave their dogs unleashed in my neighborhood. I know if I cease movement, they will cease chasing me, but this is not always the case. Today I almost got mauled, but I was carrying pepper spray and I used it to avert the canine’s attack successfully. This got me wondering about what other methods for self defense against dog attacks when I go for a jog?

I know there is the ultrasonic repellent. I know there is pepper and OC spray. I also know there is taser. What other methods are out there? Which one is the best or should it be a combination? What should I look for when I shop for dog repellent in order to get the best quality and what a good place to shop?
Also, what ones carry the least amount of legal restrictions in the US?
Rather not use a firearm. Shooting my neighbor’s dog is a sure way to get on their bad side. Plus I rather not hurt the dog chasing me, just have a means to defend myself if I have to with as little harm as possible.
I am not going around "abusing animals".

I go around minding my own business. It is sometimes necessary to defend my self. Hell, I had to do so today, so advice (not harassment) would be appreciated. Thank you.

Terrible neighbor's and their terrible dogs… how should I deal with this?

ultrasonic dog collar

My husband and I have 2 very nasty neighbors who each have small yippety dogs that bark CONSTANTLY! From 8AM until sundown, all that I hear through my windows is "yip yip yip".

One of them keeps an electric fence collar on hers (most of the time, but I occasionally catch her roaming in our yard, digging holes), the other does not. Every day when I am out working in the yard, one of the dogs runs up to me, and barks incessantly. This triggers the other dog to bark. Sometimes when the barking seems very close to my house I go outside and need to chase the dog off of my deck and back into her yard, while she barks the whole way. I can’t have a minute of peace in my own yard or house!

We have a large breed dog who, in turn, does NOT bark. He is kept on a runner so he cannot leave our yard. The small dog instigates and teases our dog by running circles around him.

I have tried scolding the dog and throwing small rocks at her to scare her (not to hit her), but it only deters her for a minute before she comes running back.

I can assure you that speaking to each of these neighbors will do no good. They are ignorant, selfish people and will probably find a way to blame me for their dog’s barking. I believe that they simply filter out the barking because it is so constant. I, however, refuse to and do not feel that I should suffer due to their lack of training. I confronted one of them last year when her dog dug an enormous hole in one of our mulch beds. She yelled at ME, then sent her son over to do a half a** job filling the hole. If my dog ever did that in her yard, we would never hear the end of it!

I have considered using the Dog Silencer Pro to stop my neighbor’s dogs from barking, however I do not want my dog to suffer when the ultrasonic frequencies (inaudible to humans) go off.

I have a few questions. How do I keep this dog out of my yard? How can I get both of these dogs to stop barking? What are the legal limitations for use of deterrents on MY property to keep the other dog out? I want something that will work, but I do not want the MSPCA knocking at my door.
We have a very large yard, and to put up a fence big enough to keep the dogs out it would cost over ,000… I know, good fences make good neighbors. And I’d love to keep the neighbors out just as much as their dogs, haha

How do I get my dog to stop whining when I'm not home?

ultrasonic dog collar

I have a 4 year old havanese and during the past year she has developed the bad habit of whining. I already keep her in an enclosed space with a comfy bed, a toy, the TV on, food and water. I got dog appeasing pharmones (DAP) which worked for a while, but not long. I also already tried the ultrasonic barking thing that emits an annoying noise when she barks. I think my last try is a shock collar because the neighbor keeps complaining and she works from home. What do I do?!?!

What is the best/most humane way to discourage neighbor's dogs from barking?

ultrasonic dog bark

A question on behalf of an acquaintance, who lives across an alley from a neighbor who has two small dogs that bark all day long, unless they are let inside. Calls to the neighbor and later complaints about the noise to the police haven’t worked.

Is there a humane way to discourage the dogs from barking? I’ve seen those ultrasonic gadgets that put out a noise in response to barking, but that seems kind of cruel to me. Any suggestions?
The ultrasonic gadgets I’m referring to are ones you post on your property, not on the dogs themselves – they identify the sound of a dog barking, and that triggers the unpleasant ultrasonic sound.

Bark Collars?

ultrasonic dog collar

I have 3 dogs, a Miniature Schnauzer, and 2 Miniature Dachsunds. I’m interested in buying bark collars for them, but I’ve used the Ultrasonic collars and they were worthless. I was thinking about trying the Citronella ones, but was curious is anyone had any luck with them. Please help, our neighbor is mad because the pups bark sometimes when we’re not home! Thanks!!
I would definitely use other means if I knew what they were. How can I get them to not bark when I’m not home?
I agree that I don’t want to put a collar on them, but our homeowner’s association has rules about barking dogs. I understand it’s their natural tendency to bark, but for where I live, I need to stop it. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!

Anybody familiar with the Bark Solver X40?

ultrasonic dog bark

I am looking into getting our dog a Bark Solver X40 Ultrasonic Bark Controller by Intellipet. It says for outdoor use only but it also says it isn’t weather proof and needs to be kept clear or dust and dirt. That kind of confuses me…

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this device or knows anyone with experience with this device.

We have tried bark collars and regular shock collars but our dog always manages to get them off and bury them.

Thanks for any help :)
Hey Sadie, you idiot. It’s not barking that’s the problem it’s incessant 24/7 barking that is a problem for our NEIGHBOR’S. Our dog barks non- stop at anything that moves. I’m tired of getting the cops called on my ass because our dog won’t shut up. So STFU or I’ll get a bark collar for you.

How much barking noise should a neighbor tolerate before making an animal noise report?

ultrasonic dog collar

We are NOT grumpy neighbors, in fact, we are quite the opposite, going the extra distance to help one another in any way we can. But we have a delimna now which was brought on not by a neighbor, but by one of their family members who literally DUMPED a noisy dog on her when she, 87 years old and in a wheel chair and in and out of the hospital all the time, has no business trying to take care of a rambunctious toy Dachshund who scratches, barks, and as Dachshunds will do, burrows into everything. And all the bloody scratches on our neighbor’s arms and legs from this dog jumping on her are testimony to how this was not a wise decision to match these two.

We’ve suggested a humane ultrasonic collar that will teach the dog not to bark. The daughter (whose bad judgement led to this delimna) responded by cutting off ALL relations in a letter to the police, fearing we might make an animal noise report.

They will not walk the dog either so it has far too much pent up energy.
We wrote a letter to the daughter that was written very nicely, not as a complaing, but as a helpful suggestion for addressing the barking noise as we are in an attached condo environment with adjoining patios where the dog barks for hours each day, wanting back inside. Since our letter, they have responded by not leaving the dog outside for 4 hours at a time, and sometimes twice a day. Now they leave it outside for 2 hours at a time, twice a day, and that is an improvement, but we still hear all the barking. The poor dog is lonely, wants back inside, and is not barking at passers by. She needs to be walked but the 87 year old neighbor can’t do this in her wheel chair and the daughter won’t do it either when she comes by, several times a week. They have plenty of money and should be able to afford a dog walking service, but for some strange reason, they feel that is inappropriate for a toy Dachshund. Maybe they think it "too small" to walk for fear of bigger dogs in the ‘hood.
But since this has now come to blows with the daughter issuing a harsh and totally unfriendly letter in response to our merely suggesting a humane solution to our shared problem, I feel less inclined to hold back in a report to the police about the animal noise. I have already spoken to them and they are ready to take the report should we call.

But I’m on the borderline here because the barking is not so loud or continuous, it is deafening. It’s just annoying because it is right outside our window and it goes on for hours each day. The real solution is to place the dog in another home but the daughter (who works for the largest church in town and is truly full of herself as the quintessential "church lady") is too proud to admit she made a mistake in judgement by accepting this dog and pawning it off on her mother. The dog provides some element of company so that’s a plus, but on balance, our neighbor resents the dog but can’t tell her daughter that.

When is enough enough?
Note that talking to or writing to the neighbor has now been expressly forbidden in a pre-emptive letter by the non-present daughter. This was truly overkill on her part and totally uncalled for as we have been friends for many years and have never been at odds with one another. But the daughter drew the line in the sand and decided to kill our friendship over this dog issue so I sense we may have hit a sensitive vein here. If I wrote a letter to the daughter or the mother, I can see that their next move would be to make a charge of "harrassment" since they expressly wanted no more contact in person or by letter.

The police chief thoroughly understands how these people are being ridiculous by running to the police to fabricate some report when we have commit no offense and they are the ones who are liable. But I feel like our hand is being forced to MAKE the report if the neighbor or daughter refuse any and all communication or contact with us. Civil solution not imminent.
As for the idea of buying the dog some toys or treats, well we would do that too. I am a dog lover myself and even though I currently don’t own one, I buy dog bones to give to neighbors dogs if they run up to me on the street, but with the owners permission of course. I want to be FRIENDS with all the neighborhood dogs. But the problem is, would you want some stranger feeding your dog? Do you know for sure what is in that dog bone or dog toy? We owned cats one time and a neighborhood cat hater and hunter threw a dead rabbit he shot over the patio door. Our cats knawed on it and died. The neighbor had laced it with rat poison. Yes. Evil people out there do this.

So while I agree that your suggestion of offering toys or treats to the neighbor in an offering of friendship sounds nice, I have little hope it would be met with anything but skepticism at this juncture since the daughter has decided to draw her sword and declare us enemies to her family and their well-being.
As for taking the dog myself, I have a similar problem in that a 78 year old woman lives here and she would suffer the same scratches. She also has an incurable respiratory disease so any pets with fur are literally, a threat to her health. Nice idea, and yes I thought of that, but we are just not in a position to take on a pet with fur right now. Thanks anyway.
