Do ultrasonic dog bark control units work?

ultrasonic dog bark

I am about to go crazy from my rude neighbors barking dog. Every morning at 5:00 a.m. she puts it out and it barks non-stop for a half an hour or more. I will buy one of these if they work. I can’t find any independent tests online.
Rescue member, thanks but no thanks. You don’t seem to have a clue. I have called the Sherriff and they say to call Animal Control who says they only come out during business hours 9-5. I have tried to speak to the rude old lady and she cussed me out. I guess her dogs need to bark is more important than my need for rest and peace of mind.

You are talking about bark boxes? They work for timid dogs, but dogs that have a higher confidence level usually ignore them. It’s just like someone yelling "shut up" to the dog. Some timid dogs will stop. More confident dogs just keep barking.

Bark collars work pretty well, but dogs can learn to bark around them. They just make noises similar to barks (like howls) that don’t set off the collars. But they do stop the barking. Sometimes they increase yipping and howling.

Not your business to be putting shock collars on someone’s dog.
What you can do is call Animal Services or the police to find out what the noise ordinances are in your area – 5 a.m. sounds way out of line.

Have you tried talking to the neighbor? If not, call and find out what your laws are on dogs barking at that hour.

If I don’t "have a clue" it’s because you didn’t say you had called Animal Services and tried to reason with your neighbor.
You seem to be looking for trouble – and if you decide to put a shock collar on a dog who doesn’t belong to you, I suspect you are are going to get it. You need a solution, not revenge.

Your option – but you aren’t half trying to be law abiding here, there are noise ordinances in any community – you just seem to want to cowboy it.
Your problem, bad neighbors are not fun but doing something stupid can land you in jail.

It seems that these things either work as described, or not at all. It may depend on the dog, after all. Some annoying barkers are deaf themselves and won’t care about an ultrasonic horn. Others might respond. might as well try it. i think the only thing to do is buy from somewhere with a good return policy and see if it works.

ps. no its not a shock collar! lol

I’ll be curious to find out the same thing. I have a neighbor with 2 beagles that howl from 6 am until about 10 at night. They are at risk to lose the dogs due to the number of complaints. Heck, I’d even buy it for them if I could enjoy the lovely sounds of Spring without having to put up with the noise.

My dogs learned how to bark just far enough away from it or in a tone that it doesn’t detect, so no I do not believe they work for most dogs.

    Talk to your neighbor!

call animal control. They can talk to your neighbor

personally I think they are rubbish. Most of them have a fairly limited range, have to be at roughly the same height as the dog and wont work if there obstructions between them and the dog. I went looking for one to deter my own dog from barking outside when I’m not home & couldnt find a decent one at all. So I wouldnt bother. I’d suggest just ringing your local council/ animal control. If you are going to do that though it can be helpful to have a rwritten record of times and dates that the dog has been a nuisance.

I am not sure about that, I do know that there are noise laws in most states. Example mowing lawns, can not be done til after 7am due to the noise in the state of Texas at least in residential neighborhoods. I had a similar problem and had to report the neighbor to animal control, they put a notice on the door and advised the neighbor that if it continued there would be a fine. It was something like 200.00 and eventually the dog could be removed if they did not do something about it.
I did not go this route until having coffee with my neighbor and talking about the problem first. To no avail it continued so I had no choice. Problem was solved after the first notice, no need for a fine. We are not very good friends so was not that big of a deal. I worry about retaliation since I have a dog of my own, but start with talking to the neighbor and letting them know that it is disturbing your sleep and ask if it is possible to please not put the dog out til at least 7am, if that is not an option for them advise them that they need to find some solution for the barking.
They actually make a collar that controls dog barking. Does not sound very humane but it works.
Sends a mild shock when the dog barks more than a few barks. Dog will only do this once or twice and stop.
The collar can be removed if they are needing to guard the house, but they need to show some consideration for the neighbors.
Good Luck and remember it always pays to be nice first!!

I have a friend that lives next to a guy with hunting dogs that are kenneled outdoors and she put one in her backyard facing the neighbors and said it works perfectly. I’m thinking about getting one of the smaller ones for my car.

Your rude old lady neighbor needs her own sleep disturbed so that she understands your frustration.
If she lives close enough that you can see her let her dogs out, you can put out a long extension chord as close as you can to her house, with a boom box and a timer attached. Set it to blast toward her house at 3 am.
Now, if she comes outside and goes to your house to confront you…at least you’re getting her attention.
It sounds to me like the problem is == she just opens the door and lets the dog out. She doesn’t say anything to it to shut it up. This could be "corrected" in the dog easily. If she can’t physically go out with her dog, she could put on a "barking" collar before letting it out.
They cost around 50 dollars, and they work.
You can also use a training collar with a handheld beeper. The woman can stand in the doorway, let her dog out, and if it begins to bark -press a button to let out a tone. If dog ignores tone, press other button to zap. I tell you dogs understand this very very quickly.
Maybe you could explain this to the woman in a note, and even offer to purchase the collar for her. If she won’t even talk to you, and is still doing the wrong thing — do the radio thing.
Or call the cops, or animal control, or someone that deals with nuisance issues at your town office.

    tried one myself, doesn’t work.

The uhf dog repeller works…just point it towards the dog at the time ad the barking will diminish over a few days…be aware that the dog’s aggression will be released some other way until the dog gets training.
    good sleeping.

I have a yorkie which we love. But he use to bark at everyone walking by our house. We came across this website, read the review and decided to give it a try. It took about 5 days to train our dog but he no longer barks.
