I want to get 2 bark collars for my dog. I’m debating between the static correction and the ultrasonic ones. The thing I’m concerned about is, will the ultrasonic affect my bird too? Will the ultrasonic sound bother birds?(lovebirds to be exact). I tried googling stuff to find out if it does, and I found like nothing.
Anyone know?
Thanks
My girlfriend has a year old Jack Russell – Australian Shepherd mix. VERY hyper dog. She comes to visit every weekend or every other and brings the dog. She has a cage, but doesn’t like to leave her in there. I love the dog and can deal with her, but I can’t deal with the barking or the constant need of attention.
When I walk her, she pulls constantly. I shorten the leash and keep the dog behind or beside me, and try to keep her head up. I try not to allow her to jump up on counters or the kitchen table. And I definitely don’t like her on my bed.
However, if we don’t feed it constant attention- she will start to whine, growl and bark at us. If we are trying to have a quiet night- the dog is always getting in the way. Also, if she hears ANY noise outside the door, she’ll bark like crazy. So much so that I’m considering a shock collar or ultrasonic device without telling my girlfriend.
Since I’m not the dog’s primary owner, how can I teach the dog to respect me in my apartment?
I’ve read up a little, and know we just need to ignore her when she starts to growl or bark- but so far she’s just kept going until my girlfriend gives in. When my parents got our dog (16 years ago) we put her in the basement when she was bad, or bonked her on the nose- and treats to enforce good behavior.
Hi, I got a ultra sonic bark collar for my dog and fortunately he does not like the sound (I have friends whose dogs totally shrug off the sound) but unfortunately this collar is going off even if he bumps into things so he is getting really paranoid. I like the collar because with a 9v battery it has lasted months (unlike some other collars, esp shock ones) but I could use something that say takes vibration into account before sounding off (ok, and something that escalates the sound if he continues barking would be nice as there have been a few occasions where he does shrug it off [only about 3 times in 4 months so far]).
For the record, I have found the perfect collar (http://www.amazon.com/SportDOG-Rechargeable-NoBark-Control-Collar/dp/B00173CWDW/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1295088958&sr=8-7) rechargeable, can escalate, etc… except its a shock collar (For my dog I know that the ultrasonic one is sufficient)
Hmmm, apparently there are some ESL’ers reading this. I found, did not buy the shock collar, it is perfect in its functions except it shocks. As for the training, we have tried, for months now, has not worked.

My brother’s dog is quite a nuisance lol He is about 6 1/2 months old and is a mix breed of husky shepherd beagle and collie, so he’s quite a big dog already. he is always extremely hyper and can be quite load when he’s running through the house. on top of that he can never be left alone cause he will chew and destroy anything he can get to. The other day we all went out and we chained him up in the kitchen. When we got back, he got into all the Tupperware and chewed it all up and he also got to the Christmas lights in the window! My bro also mentioned that he got to his futon bed as well and ripped two holes in that.
His dog is out of control. We need to train him properly to get him out of these habits. what can we do?
Also, what to recommend to train for barking? I don’t like the idea of a shock collar [i found ultrasonic shcok collars if those would be better?] and was thinking of trying a muzzle.
