My dog is an excessive licker. I've been told by my Vet to try a deterrent spray. Recommendations?

dog deterrent

He continues to lick his wiener, along with all the dogs at the dog park. My Vet says this is because my dog is sweet tasting down there. My dog has already got two infection of the penis because of the licking from other dogs. So I need a recommendation for a non toxic, non alcohol, deterrent spray.

I’ve already tried a natural spray through Petsmart, but my dog just enjoyed licking it.
Where can I buy it?
Sorry, I think my wording was off. OTHER dogs keep licking MY dogs’ penis causing MY dog to have infections.

Does a dog pee deterrent spray actually work?

dog deterrent

I’ve been having a difficult time training my new dog to go potty outdoors and she’s already made some boo boos on my carpet. I don’t want her to find them again and keep peeing in those spots

What are some dog items that can go on a keychain?

dog deterrent

I supose its a weird question, but I want to have small items that I can put on a keychain and make a "dog" keychain for portable use in my purse.

I already have a tick twister, small flashlight, dog deterrent spray.
Do they make other interesting products that are small and keychain friendly for dogs?
Just added a whistle and a clicker! Thank you!
Ohh, a poo bag is a good idea too

What are your recipes for a chew deterrent for dogs?

dog deterrent

I have 2 Mastiffs, and they love to chew and chew a lot.
Myself and others play with them frequently and they have about 5 acres that they run on all the time.
They are normally very good, but every once in a while, they chew the porch furniture, the fence to the pool, and the porch itself.
I would also like to keep them from the plants out front. They don’t chew on them, but they are so big, they just smash everything.
They also pull logs out of a woodpile to chew on, and they do this all the time.

I only add all of this so i don’t get people telling me they are bored or have nothing to chew on.

So, what are some homemade recipes?
Just some extra stuff. I play with my dogs almost daily. We also live next to a community property where there are literally dozens of people that come and play with them and run them around.

They also behave excellent. When I am around, they will do anything I tell them too immediately.

Chew toys also don’t work. They are close to 200 lbs each and can snap anything into pieces within minutes.

I need a dog for protection?

dog deterrent

So, i’m getting a dog. I am 17, I will be taking this dog to college. (im going to community college-ive researched pet friendly apartments) But my dad said I can get a dog at the latest Christmas, he will consider it sooner if I bring my grades up.

I know you should carry pepper spray/knife/cell for protection. But I would like a guard dog…more that looks the part though if you know what I mean? I will not train it to attack, it would end up put to sleep or something you should never train your family dogs to attack, I know its the dog itself not the breed-our family Labrador is very protective but labs are supposed to be friendly. I just want a dog that will be a deterrent/looks at least slightly intimidating. I also want an affectionate, loyal dog with short fur. I do really want a Beagle, but they arent exactly intimidating. Any breed ideas? I love Catahoula Leopard Dogs but my dad thinks they are ugly. Should I go with a Beagle even though they wont be good for protection?
haha no in alaska you can carry concealed weapons
im not in college now i do online homeschooling i have time for a puppy
ahh i want a mutt bad but its hard to get one where i live. its about 0 which is less than a purebred but they have to do a homecheck, interview, blah blah.
i plan on walking the dog twice a day and just letting it out to run and go on a hike on weekends. or a long trail.

whats a good dog for a 16 year old male? ALL ANSWERS APPRECIATED?

dog deterrent

i was looking at akitas first, but i decided that i didnt want a dog that primitive and aggressive. i just dont think it would be a good choice considering i live with my family, and i dont think my younger sister would do very well with it.

so next i considered getting a rottweiler. less aggressive, but still good protection ability. but i talked with my mom about it extensively, and we decided that it also, wouldnt be a good choice.

then i found the doberman pinscher. seems like a good dog, but kind of hard to find

i was thinking an alaskan malamute. but i was wondering, do they have any protection ability? because really, i would like a dog that could protect my family. and me when im out on a walk. and i can protect myself, but a dog is more of a deterrent. that way it wouldnt be necessary for me to fight.

i have a large build. im 6.4, i work out everyday, and do extensive krav maga training. so having a large breed is not an issue when it comes to being able to physically control it.

im currently reading a 1500 page book on dog psychology. and most of my time is spent researching training methods.

im home schooled, and im not going to college. im looking into becoming a dog behaviorist.

oh, im also working with a friends aggressive Labrador. they live on a large piece of property. the dog got out, and killed 3 chickens. so, ive been working with him for a couple weeks, and i can now walk him right past chickens without him jumping or pulling. he dosent even bark.

also, i had let them out in a fenced part of the yard (them meaning the lab and another dog they have) i called them back, the lab came running right away to my side. the other ignored me. i looked down at the lab, and he was looking at me. i said "go get her shadow" and pointed at her. he took off running, and dragged her to my feet and held her there. it happened twice. i was just like.. "cool beans"

sorry, that was pretty irrelevant, but it was a funny story and i thought i would share.

well, thats about it. sorry, this was really long, but i wanted you to know some about me before you made any suggestions. and i would love to hear any stories you have about your experience with the breed your suggesting. or just a story about you and your dog.

thanks so much for reading all this. and for your answer
rayven, ive talked with my mom and she said i can get any dog i really want. and i understand the difference between pets and guard dogs. i was told by someone that they would protect you if needed. i was doubting that, especially after the research i did. just thought i would ask
another thing rayven, the reason i decided not to get a rotty was BECAUSE of my family. im talking with them all about what they want in a dog
J. christ, you have to have given some of the best advice ive ever gotten on here. your completely right about protection dogs. you helped me see things much clearly. thank you very much. wise words

Sonic wave bug deterrent?

dog deterrent

do those plug-in, sonic-wave rodent and bug machines work? Sunbeam makes one; I’m not sure if there are others. My office has the reputation of having a spider and waterbug problem, and I’ve seen roaches occasionally. I’d like a non-chemical way to deter them. Has anyone had success with these machines? Are they safe around dogs and cats? Thanks.
